NUMBER FIVE, Yeti Imperial Stout by Great Divide
Number five on the Tansey’s Top Five Beers List of 2016 is the Yeti. This is one of those beers that really tapped into the flavors some of my fondest treats in life…toasty chocolate chip cookies, bourbon, coffee, and cocoa…yes, this beer is like a dream come true. Warming beer but not over the top, coming in at 9.5% ABV, this brew will comfort you and soothe you on that cold, rainy or snowy day. Ashleigh found this beer at the Triangle Wine Shop in Cary, NC and was recommended to her from one of their beer associates. She paid $8.49 for a bomber and it was worth every penny. This was a completely unexpected treat. Octoberfest beers are super fun to consume but rarely does any one beer rise above the pack (in a non-offensive way) and deliver much more than you bargained for. This beer was so perfectly balanced and chock full of flavor that I was nearly speechless. Because this beer was nicely executed it landed the number four spot on our Top Five Beers List of 2016. The Moo-hooChiato by Terrapin Brewing Co. was one of those beers that you wish was around all the time. making the top three slot on the Tansey’s Top Five Beers List, this brew was a limited release beer and nearly impossible to find in large quantities. Too bad because I am dying for another bottle. The Moo-hooChiato is simply complex… Meaning that although the beer has many layers, each layer has a characteristic that any beer lover can easily identify. Hints of dry chocolate morsels, espresso, Ovaltine, and roasted malts, I could drink this beer for breakfast and then be extremely productive during the day. Ashleigh found this brew in a mixed case given to us by a beer rep in the area. For the full review click Here. Cheers!
Coming in at number two on the Tansey’s Top Five Beers List of 2016 is Pernicious IPA by Wicked Weed. With a Tansey blind rating of 96 points, a Beer Advocate score of 94, and a Rate Beer score of 99 points, this beer brought the thunder! Freshness and balance carry this beer to new heights. Bitter and sweet, like a chocolate covered pretzel…except there are no chocolate notes in this beer… or pretzel notes for that matter. The sweet red grapefruit (with a dash of white sugar) characteristic in this beer take be back to morning breakfast with my mom. She loves her red grapefruit and sugar for breakfast. The finesse in this beer, along with its strong balance and structure, demands a spot in your cellar. Ashleigh found a six pack of this beer at Clayton Beverage in Clayton NC. It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine! Especially after drinking a bomber of La Fin Du Monde! With a Tansey Blind Rating of 100 points, Beer Advocate score of 96 points, and 99 Points by Rate Beer, it is a no brainer why this beer made the number one spot on the Tansey Top Five Beer List of 2016! A perfect balance of sweet fruit and sour yeast completely mask the 9% ABV. The powerful floral aromas that you get with every sip bring you mentally to a whole new world. A beer that you can find almost anywhere in the US, at a cost of less than $10, there is no reason why you should not have a bottle of this beer on hand at all times. For full review click here!
