Bogle Phantom

Review By Eric Tansey, CSW, Sommelier

The Bogle Phantom Red Blend is dark and inky purple with a very heavy stain on the glass. Slow, fat tears. Yes, this wine will stain your teeth! Beautiful aromas of blackberry, black cherry, crushed violets, vanilla bean, and mint leaf. Bogle Phantom gets five stars on aroma alone.

On the palate, the Bogle Phantom has a full body mouthfeel that is powerful and brutish yet elegantly structured, similar to a well written opera.  A near perfect balance of strong fruit and terrior. Underripe blackberry blended with ripe blueberry flood the front of the palate. The mid-palate delivers a touch of dry, crusty earth, and subtle hints of vanilla bean and violets. The finish is summed up with firm tannin, medium acidity and a touch of mint that carries the long finish.

What a fantastic wine! Another wine that had I known what it was, I would have been reluctant to give it 92 points. A blind palate never lies. The fact that this wine was under $17 is mind blowing. Cheers!

From The winery

Phantom, Bogle’s mysterious apparition of ripe berry and relentless spice, returns to haunt wine lovers. Full of concentration and intensity, this wine will tease, tantalize and linger long after the last sip is gone.

Wild berries, black pepper and hints of juniper are framed by the influence of oak aging with baking spices with a hint of toasty vanilla. On the palate, the entry is explosive, supported by chewy, chalky tannins that will age this wine for decades. The lingering, complex finish

leaves one in anticipation of the next sip.
