Review by Eric Tansey, CSW

The color of this beer is a hazy, opaque, dark amber bronze that appears red in the light, hence it’s name. It has a caramel colored head at about half a finger tall. Aromas of raisin, trail mix, and overripe cantaloupe. On the palate the beer has an inviting, full-bodied mouthfeel with raisin, dates, roasted malts and sweet melon characteristics. On the finish, the beer leaves ripened banana and wood chips on the breath, giving the beer yet another layer of complexity.

What is a Red Ale- A red ale is any ale that is not brown or dark, but copper or.. you guessed it, red. Red ales are all about the malts; roasted malts, caramel malts, biscuit malts, and chocolate malts can often be found in the recipes. Mixed blends of hops are used to bring a bitterness to the rather sweeter style malts giving the beer balance. These beers are typically medium bodied beers with balanced malt and hop flavors, making them an easy crowed pleaser. Cheers! Eric Tansey, CSW

From the Brewery – Fascist Pig is a deep red, malt-forward ale brewed with plenty of caramel malts and a touch of rye for a hint of spice. The beer won a bronze medal in the strong beer category at the 2014 International Beer Festival. This big American red ale is brewed and dry-hopped with palisade, an earthy and somewhat floral, mentholated American variety, and Zythos, an American blend. http://www.finchbeer.com/fascist-pig
